Spirit for Members got some serious lovin' recently. We pushed up several great features for Member sites (and a little something for Commerce users too).
We introduced an 'additional info' tab to the 'my account' screen which displays any number of custom fields for your members to view and edit. The fields can be hidden, shown as text, or editable form fields. It's a snap to configure with a new 'my account' setup screen.
Members can also now be searched and displayed on your pages in much the same way that product search and displays are handled.
For Commerce and Member users, you can now add custom headers and footers and control the css for the 'my account' screen directly from the admin tool without the need to edit your templates.

In every issue, we provide you proven ways to make your website, email marketing and promotion activities more effective. Today, we take a look at the key components of Organic Optimization.
Organic search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to your website via natural, "organic" activities without having to pay for a top spot (Pay Per Click programs).
Organic SEO begins with establishing specific keywords that relate to your product. Once the most effective keywords are chosen, content is developed in relation to those keywords.
The sites that are listed on the first page of organic search results contain the most relevant information a consumer can find on that particular keyword. Consumers recognize the relevancy of the site page displayed, trust the site and are more likely to purchase your product or service.
In addition to content, content, content, here are several organic components search engines pay close attention to:
Title Tag: This is the title that appears at the top of your results display. Keep your title tag short (5 words) and include your keyphrase.
Meta Description Tag: A meta description tag is a brief, concise summary of your web page's content. This tag appears in the search engine results display underneath the title tag. Include a sentence clearly describing your site.
The following is an example of the Title and Meta description tags:
Keywords in URL: Create keyword-based filenames that closely represent the content within the file.
Browser HTML Title: This is the title for the page you are viewing that appears at the top of your browser window. This is also the title that will appear when someone bookmarks your page. Keep titles relevant and customize for each page of your site.
Image & Graphic Names: Search engines even pay attention to your graphics and images. Use key words in their names. If you sell insurance and have your picture on the site, instead of "name.jpg" use "tucson_insurance_name.jpg".
Don't forget to provide appropriate "ALT text" for each image on your site. ALT text is used to provide a clear, concise description of what the image is. In this case, adding the keyphrase or a portion of the keyphrase is totally appropriate and can add more credibility to your page.
There are several other optimization avenues such as submitting to directories, writing press releases, submitting articles to blogs, setting up your own blog and posting to services like Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc. These are all low-cost or free to use.
Anything you can do to create multiple in-links which point back to your site is key. When the search engines see repeating page URL's out there, they think, "Hey! There must be an important reason why this site page has so many instances...I'll assign it more relevance."
An easy way to get relevant links is to start one or more blogs about your key phrase(s). Link from the blogs to your web site. Add a new product to your site, write a blog post about why the product is important and link to the product page. Keep adding fresh, original content to both your blogs and site.
Post a video to YouTube demonstrating your product, upload photos to Flickr and start blogging about your product, service whenever and where ever you can. If you think these sites are just for dare-devil skateboarding teens, we highly recommend you take a second look.
TIP! Blogs work fast.
Did you know that blogs are one of the fastest ways to get your content listed by the search engines? Blog posts are usually indexed in just a few days and provide a great way for you to link back to important pages on your site. This is a tremendous way to get recognized quickly.
The bottom line here is that each link to your site is a vote of confidence for your site. The more votes you have, the more confident search engines are about ranking your site.
